How to Eliminate House Flies from Your Kitchen

House flies are gray in color and have stripes on the middle portion of their bodies. In residential settings, these pests commonly lay eggs on household trash and tend to spend time resting on flat objects, such as ceilings, windowsills or flooring.

If you have spotted several flies inside of your kitchen, eliminating the pests quickly will be in your best interest since flies are carriers of communicable diseases, such as cholera and typhoid. After house flies have been eliminated with one of the following options, simple measures will prevent additional flies from becoming a nuisance again.

Sticky Fly Traps

Fly traps are often composed of a sticky piece of film that attracts flies due to the scent that it emits. After flies land on the sticky film, they cannot fly away and eventually die. This type of trap is often referred to as fly paper and can be purchased at a lawn and garden center or retail store. Before hanging traps in your home, it is a good idea to put on a pair of disposable gloves over your hands to prevent your skin from sticking to the film.

Hang a trap from the ceiling by securing a thumbtack through the center of the loop that is attached to the top of the trap. Extend the length of the trap by gripping the paper base and pulling downward. After flies have been eliminated, simply remove the trap and discard of it. If flies have already been multiplying since they first became a problem, hang several traps from the ceiling. Place plenty of space between traps so that flies are attracted from each side of the kitchen.

Indoor Electronic Fly Traps

Indoor electronic fly traps contain ultraviolet lights that attract flies, as well as other flying pests. Each light will have a grid surrounding. Once a fly heads toward an ultraviolet light and touches a portion of a grid, an electric volt will kill them instantly. Lights have guards on them that will prevent an injury if an individual accidentally touches the sides of one of these traps. If you purchase an electronic fly trap, hang it from a hook that is anchored to the kitchen ceiling.

A tray that rests at the bottom of the trap will collect dead flies. You can remove the tray and dispose of the flies without needing to unhook the entire trap. Some electronic fly traps are designed to look like standard lighting that would be used in a home, allowing you to purchase a trap that will blend in with the decor in the room where you are attempting to eliminate flies.

After flies have been eliminated, clean your kitchen thoroughly with a disinfectant to kill germs and make the room unappealing for additional flies to use as a habitat. After placing household trash in a bag, tie the bag and carry it outdoors. Place the trash in a can that has a tight-fitting lid.

Follow these tips and you should be able to keep your home a fly-free residence.
